William Ruto Biography

William Kipchirchir Samoei Arap Ruto is a Kenyan politician. He took office as the president of Kenya on September 13, 2022, making him the fifth person to hold this position. Before his presidency, Ruto served as the first elected deputy president of Kenya from 2013 to 2022. It’s worth noting that before this change, the position was called Vice President, and the officeholder was appointed by the President rather than being elected.

Born on December 21, 1966, in Sambut village, Kamagut, Uasin Gishu County. His parents are Daniel Cheruiyot and Sarah Cheruiyot.

Ruto began his schooling at Kamagut Primary School and later moved to Kerotet Primary School, both located in Uasin Gishu County. He took his Certificate of Primary Education (CPE) exams at Kerotet. Continuing his education, Ruto attended Wareng Secondary School in Uasin Gishu County and later Kapsabet High School in Nandi County, where he completed his Ordinary Level and advanced-level studies, respectively.

Moving on to higher education, he joined the University of Nairobi, where he pursued a degree in Botany and Zoology, graduating in 1990 with a Bachelor of Science. Ruto then earned his Master’s degree in Plant Ecology from the same university. Despite facing challenges, he persisted in his academic journey and enrolled in a Ph.D. program at the University of Nairobi, eventually overcoming setbacks and graduating on December 21, 2018.

Ruto is happily married to Rachel Chebet. The couple initially resided in Dagoretti, where they welcomed their first child.
