Thulasizwe Buthelezi Biography

Thulasizwe Buthelezi is a well-known South African politician and the son of the late Prince Mangosuthu Buthelezi, who established the Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP). Currently, Thulasizwe serves as the national spokesperson for the IFP and leads the opposition in the KwaZulu-Natal legislature.

Additionally, he is a member of the Zulu royal family and holds the significant role of traditional prime minister to King Misuzulu Zulu.

Early Life & Education

Thulasizwe was born on June 15, 1972, in Ulundi, KwaZulu-Natal, as the sixth child and third son of Prince Mangosuthu Buthelezi and Princess Irene Audrey Thandekile Mzila. His upbringing was immersed in politics, given his father’s role as the chief minister of the KwaZulu bantustan during apartheid and the leader of the IFP, a Zulu nationalist party opposing the ANC.

Thulasizwe attended Impumalanga Primary School in Mahashini, Nongoma, before continuing his education at Adams College in Amanzimtoti, where he graduated high school in 1990. He pursued higher education at the University of Pretoria, earning a Bachelor of Commerce degree in 1994. Later, he obtained a Master of Business Administration degree from the University of South Africa, completing it in 2001.
